February 22, 2021 – Today, the Public Health Committee took action to pass S.B. 835, An Act Concerning Deceptive Advertising Practices of Limited Service Pregnancy Centers out of committee. This bill will ensure that clear and honest advertising services will be the standard practice of all organizations who offer pregnancy-related services and reproductive healthcare in Connecticut. During an ongoing public health crisis, it is imperative that we take measures to ensure everyone can access the time-sensitive and essential reproductive healthcare they need without facing delays or barriers. We are proud of our State’s legislative champions who continue to stand up to advance reproductive freedom, and are extremely grateful for their leadership.

“We are pleased to see the Public Health Committee act to ensure anyone seeking vital reproductive healthcare services in Connecticut can do so without deception, delays or shame,” said Liz Gustafson, State Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut. “This bill is about honesty, transparency and dignity when seeking comprehensive reproductive healthcare, and simply prevents advertising practices that are deliberately deceptive. S.B. 835 recognizes that people who think they are pregnant deserve and need timely access to qualified medical professionals, and should be able trust the advertising they encounter when seeking pregnancy-related care.”

NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut looks forward to this bill moving swiftly to debate and vote in the Senate.
