May 5, 2021 – Tonight, the Connecticut Senate voted 21 to 15 in favor of passage of S.B. 835, An Act Concerning Deceptive Advertising Practices of Limited Service Pregnancy Centers. NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut released the following statement:
“The necessity of this legislation is clear. Just as we should trust individuals to make the best decisions regarding their health, their futures, and their families, lawmakers should ensure Connecticut residents can trust advertising when seeking time-sensitive reproductive healthcare,” said Liz Gustafson, State Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut. “Although COVID-19 has impacted just about every component of our lives, people will always need access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive healthcare, including abortion. Any delay in receiving this care is a threat to public health, and in this moment the impact of disinformation and misdirection is even more detrimental to those who are interrupted in their search for medical care. This legislation is about honesty, transparency, and the dignity of those who need access to care. It is about fostering safe and healthy communities, free of stigma and unnecessary barriers perpetuated by deceptive tactics. NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut is grateful that the Senate has taken action tonight to advance this critical policy, and looks forward to S.B. 835 moving swiftly to debate and vote in the House.”
