May 19, 2021 – The Connecticut House of Representatives voted 87 to 56 in favor of passage of S.B. 835, An Act Concerning Deceptive Advertising Practices of Limited Service Pregnancy Centers. NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut released the following statement:
“NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut applauds the House of Representatives for passing a bill that will safeguard access to time-sensitive, reproductive healthcare. Any delay in receiving essential care is a threat to public health. S.B. 835 works to ensure everyone can decide if, when or how to start or grow their families without facing deception, delays or shame, ” said Liz Gustafson, State Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut. “With an anti-choice supermajority on the Supreme Court and a record number of legislative attacks in statehouses across the country, lawmakers have launched an all-out assault on reproductive freedom. Make no mistake- crisis pregnancy centers are an extension of and serve as the frontline for the anti-choice movement. Tonight’s vote reaffirmed that the State of Connecticut will not stand for attempts to delay or block access to essential reproductive healthcare. This legislation is about honesty, transparency, and the dignity of those who need access to care. It is about fostering safe and healthy communities, free of stigma and unnecessary barriers perpetuated by deceptive tactics. We are proud of our legislature for taking these steps to protect and expand reproductive freedom, and we urge the Governor to stand with us by signing this bill to ensure truth and honesty is upheld as the standard of practice in Connecticut.”
